Music Wellness

Therapeutic Musicking Experiences. Goals addressed are embedded within each experience, and the participant can select according to their own self-identified needs.

Mindful Drumming

 

In-the-moment musicking, primarily through use of drums and percussion instruments. Join with family, friends, coworkers, community members for this satisfying music-making experience!

 

No music experience necessary – basic instruction provided – success oriented for all!Instruments provided for in-person.

 

Joining us virtually? You can explore “found sounds” within your home!

CircleSinging

 

A la Bobby McFerrin; in-the-moment musicking, primarily through use of the voice. Join with family, friends, coworkers, community members to explore your speaking and musical voice in a creativity way!

 

No music experience necessary You say, “I can’t carry a tune in a bucket!” Makes no difference – I will prove you wrong!

 

Nervous to share your voice? A safe space for vocal exploration will be established through easy and inclusive vocal exercises

Rhythmics

 

Embodied music through movement. Based loosely on Dalcroze Eurhythmics, this unique music experience allows participants of all ages to explore musical properties (rhythm, melody, phrasing, form, dynamics, meter, tempo, volume) in a holistic manner.

Music Relaxation

 

Using “live” and recorded music, individuals and/or groups will be guided through deep breathing, progressive muscle or yogaform stretching

Playlist Curation

 

Laurie will engage you in guided listening to a variety of songs and genres to determine your physical and emotional response and then assist you in the creation of some “go-to” playlists, which will aid your mental wellbeing in times of stress, sleeplessness, and anxiety, as well as promoting positive coping skills.

Outreach

Partnership/affiliation between NewSong Center for Music Wellness, Seton Hill University Music Therapy program and underserved communities to provide music therapy services and wellness initiatives at no cost or greatly reduced rates

Private instruction for persons of all ages and abilities, catering to whatever style you wish to explore, while also training the voice with solid, healthy, foundational technique

Basic guitar instruction (note reading for playing melodies, easy tabs, common chord shapes, basic major, minor and dominant 7 chords, simple progressions, variety of strumming and fingerpicking patterns) to enable you to accompany yourself or others

 

Adaptive:

Tailoring guitar instruction to your strengths while accommodating your needs and goals for playing, regardless of physical, cognitive, or behavioral challenges

Piano

Functional:

Basic piano instruction (note reading for playing melodies, basic major, minor and dominant 7 chords, simple progressions) variety of two-handed rhythmic patterns) to enable you to accompany yourself or others

Tailoring piano instruction to your strengths while accommodating your needs and goals for playing, regardless of physical, cognitive, or behavioral challenges
